Cubs pick up Rich Harden’s option for 2009

The Chicago Cubs picked up Rich Harden’s $7 million option for 2009. I am pleased with this. Harden has definitely struggled with injuries over his career, he was 5-1 with a 1.77 ERA this season for the Cubs. I understand that he’s one pitch away from retirement, but I always like keeping a potential Cy Young pitcher in the starting rotation.
