Michigan vs. USC - Rose Bowl Recap
Outplayed and outcoached. I want to leave it at that, but it would probably be better for me if I was able to let it out. So I will try. The Rose Bowl (presented by Citi, of course) left me with a lot of questions.
- Why does Michigan shit the bed in bowl games?
- Are Pete Carroll and his staff that much better than Lloyd Carr and his?
- Why is every broadcasting team on the air to call a Michigan game decidedly anti-Michigan?
- Why didn’t Michigan utilize the no-huddle offense sooner to tire out the USC defense. It actually worked at the end of the game
- Can anyone on the Michigan defense consistently wrap an opposing player up?
- Does anyone like Pete Carroll’s smug smile and schtick? I know right now, he’s atop the short list of most annoying head coaches (Jim Tressel will forever be ahead of all others on that list)?
- Can a guy catch a break? First the Cubs, now the Bears, and to top it off, the beloved Michigan Wolverines. UGGGGH.
- Do USC, Pete Carroll, or any of his players have any class?
- Dwayne Jarrett handing the ball to Willis Barringer after torching him
- LB Brian Cushing making the “nanny nanny boo boo” sign with his hands after a sack and Pete Carroll laughing about it
- Should Lloyd Carr and his staff keep their jobs?
Readers, I ask you these questions. Does anyone out there have a salve for my unending sports pain?

I’m sorry about the sports pain, however, I am on the opposite end of the spectrum on this one. I was glad to see Michigan fall (I’m a Michigan State Alum!) but they were just plain old out-played. USC was hitting on all cylinders and basically couldn’t be stopped.
After all of the hype and yapping going on about Michigan, I have no idea why they didn’t show up to play yesterday. Tackling seems to be a huge issue with them in big games. Not sure about Lloyd Carr keeping his job though, I’m on the fence about that one.
As far as the USC players showing off like Jarrett handing the ball to Barringer and also shooting the ball like a bball shot after scoring, they should have been flagged. That’s a poor reffing job, but at the same time I understand the excitement.
Pete Carroll just likes to have fun I guess. I like that though, and I like his style of coaching and how aggressive he is. He didn’t let up at all on that Michigan defense, and I was a coach, I think I’d be the same way. It’s football, and you gotta play to win.
I’m a Bears fan too, and I’m getting a little worried about the playoffs!

I can’t cry too much over this since I’m a Hawkeye fan and don’t have a fabled program to fall back on. My opinion is they left it all in Columbus. You couldn’t get them fired up for Bo, or Gerald or Rose Bowl glory after that one. And that, my friends, is COACHING.

Mark, that’s well said, definitely a coaching issue.

michigan is a very good team and i dont understand why people think they shit in the bed when it comes to rose bowls. They went 12-2 this year which that is an entirely good record but they will start winning next year watch!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Michigan is 8-12 in Rose Bowl games. I would say that that is shitting the bed. This year was a good year. But I had higher expectations. I definitely have high expectations for 2008, but there are going to be some big holes in the defense. Hopefully Henne and the boys will put up 60 every game.
