Dear Rex,

Sunday, October 1st, 2006

That was me booing you this preseason; questioning if you had what it takes to be a starting QB in the NFL. I’m sorry. I’m not sure that you’re really the next Brett Favre (like Madden and Michaels claimed), but you have done well this season so far. I’m willing to give you my support this year. I know that there will be ups and down this year. I don’t really think that you will finish the season with a passer rating over 100. Prove me wrong. Please. I definitely like to see that your receivers (Mushin Muhammed in particular) aren’t dropping passes. That always helps. And that touchdown throw you made to Bernard Berrian was a thing of beauty. But don’t get me wrong, I won’t be making any moves to bring you onto my fantasy team.

I feel like Bears fans can depend on you now. Last year, fans expected Kyle Orton to not lose games. Rex, now you’ve proven yourself capable enough to raise Bears fans expectations. We now depend on you to make plays. To win games. Make no mistake, your defense will take care of most of that for you, but you need to keep making solid passes, and smart plays (like taking the sack instead of throwing a stupid pick).

Again, I’m sorry. You’ve earned my respect. Now, earn my admiration by finishing the season the way you’ve started it.

- Hopeful Bears fan
